Do’s of Team/Interpersonal Communication
- As in a traditional classroom, don’t worry about
asking a “dumb” question – The lack of face-to-face interaction leaves
more room for misinterpretation, so go ahead and post your basic questions.
Others will have the same questions and will benefit from it.
- Use the appropriate media for the problem at hand – If
something is urgent, a post to a general forum might not be the best method
of communicating. Email, phone or even face-to-face may be needed depending
on the problem. Get all the contact info needed for each team member and
communicate how you would like to be contacted in such a situation.
- Be honest – If you don’t like the direction the team is
headed in or their approach, let your thoughts be known. The discussion that
ensues will be valuable even if nothing gets changed or you are overruled.
- Be a team player – Offer to pitch in, volunteer, get involved,
help those who are struggling and go the extra mile. It will come back to
you and also improve your learning experience.
