Do’s of Team/Interpersonal Communication
- Be considerate of others’ feelings – If you
disagree with a comment or opinion, be politically correct in your rebuttal
and word it in a diplomatic way. If someone misinterprets what you said,
apologize and re-explain what you meant.
- Remember the media you are in doesn’t allow very easy expression
of emotion – Things can easily be misinterpreted, especially before someone
knows your personality and style. Use things like emoticons (e.g. ;-) ) to express your tone of voice,
especially if making a joke or other comment that could be misconstrued.
- Team communication can be enhanced by knowing the strengths
and weaknesses of your teammates – If you know a teammate is weak in
a particular area, offer to help and they'll likely return the favor at a
later time.
- Communicate often and check back after making a post –
Don’t leave your teammates hanging! For example, if you have a team assignment
due in 2-3 days, checking in once 1 hour before it’s due is unacceptable.
